Viacheslav Kalinin (Russian Soviet, born 1939) etching on paper, Birder, 1972. Signed in pencil lower right. Titled in pencil lower left. Signed, inscribed, and dated in the print lower left. Viacheslav Kalinin is known for Surreal, abstract bohemian genre and figure painting, nudes. The Russian painter of the fantastic, an aesthete and mannerist, Viacheslav Kalinin pictures every day and the supernatural in the life of Muscovite bohemians showing similarity to Mikhail Bulgakov, particularly praised by the Moscow intelligentsia of the 1970s. A gifted graphic artist, he considers himself as a follower of the romantic trend of the Moscow school. Kalinin introduces into his artworks the portraits of the real people, nudity, sketches of architectural monuments of Moscow, although he tends to the symbolic compositions.
