Alphonse Daudet, La mort du dauphin or The Death of the Dauphin. Illustrated by O.D.V. Guillonnet. Published by Librairie des Amateurs, A. Ferroud, F. Ferroud, Paris, 1907. First separate edition of this short story extracted from Lettres de mon moulin, comprising 24 compositions by the painter and illustrator Octave Denis Victor Guillonnet, 1872 to 1967, etched by Xavier Lesueur. Includes a portrait of the Dauphin and 21 compositions in the text. The text is also included in beautiful wood-engraved frames. Hardcover in blue, burgundy and ocher marbled paper. Alphonse Daudet, 1840 to 1897, was a French novelist and playwright, famous for his vivid, often comic stories from the life of the southern regions - Provence and Languedoc. The most famous of the literary characters he created is the romantic and braggart Tartarin of Tarascon.
