Inscribed, Piraeus, Greece, on the back. Provenance: Avra Art Auctions, Margate City, NJ, United States, October 03, 2020, lot 163. Andreas Krystallis was born in Asia Minor, which is now a part of Turkey. After the end of the Turkish War of Independence, he moved to Mytilini on the island of Lesvos. He entered the Royal Greek Navy, now the Greek Navy, and finished his career as did his older brother. At this time, Andreas wanted to devote himself exclusively to writing, and he moved to Piraeus. He became a painter in oil and watercolor using subjects he had learned from being at sea and painting with lyrical impressionist style.
