ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ICON VIRGIN MARY WITH BABY JESUS
An antique late 19th century to early 20th century Russian Orthodox icon depicting Virgin Mary with baby Jesus in the Hodegetria iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. In Hodegetria iconography Mother of Gods head usually inclines towards the child, who raises his hand in a blessing gesture. In the Western Church this type of icon is sometimes called Our Lady of the Way. Antique Russian Religious Items and Collectibles.
