ANTIQUE GREEK HAND PAINTED ICON OF ST DEMETRIUS
An antique Greek hand painted on board icon. The icon depicts St Dmitry of Saloniki, Saint Demetrius or Demetrios of Thessalonica, on horseback slaying the enemy. The mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Titled upper to the center. Inscribed and dated 1886, lower to the center. Demetrius of Thessaloniki, is also known as Demetrius the Myriotochets, a Christian saint revered in the face of the great martyrs. Antique Greek Religious items and Collectibles.
