ANTIQUE ORTHODOX ICON CORONATION OF THE VIRGIN
An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon representing the Coronation of the Virgin. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Virgin Mary is depicted between the Father and the Son, who jointly crown her, a dove representing the Holy Spirit is placed above. Each character is named in Church Slavonic. This subject is rarely found in Russian icon painting, most often in the western territories of the Russian Empire, in particular in Ukraine.
