ANTIQUE AMERICAN POLITICAL CARTOON OIL PAINTING
Oil on board painting. American, mid-19th century. After the 1839 anonymous lithograph titled Senate Chamber U.S.A. Conclusion of Clays Speech In Defence of Slavery. Henry Clay, at the time a Senator from Kentucky and one of the countrys most popular politicians, grew infamous for his attempts to play both sides of the slavery issue. The artwork depicts Clay and his double standing upon an enslaved black man. The original print is presuambly by H.R. Robinson of New York, who produced a number of sharp political attacks in the form of satirical prints in the 1830s. Wooden frame. Collectible Fine Art, Americana, Civil War.

Overall good vintage condition. Signs of wear and age. Has some stains and scuffs. Has chips in frame. Refer to photos. Sold as is.
