"Russian Fashion: 150 Years in Photographs" - this is the first such large-scale study of fashion in Russia, covering the second half of the XIX century and the whole XX century. Glimpses of ball gowns, surcoats, tails, children's sailors' coats and commissars' leather jackets, "Moskvoshvey" suits and dresses from private tailors, military uniforms and sports sweaters, country sundresses and business suits of "order bearers."

Page after page, decade after decade of the photographs take us through the movement of Russian life over the course of a century and a half, from the 1850s to the end of the 20th century. These photographs, and Alexander Vassiliev's entire book, show not only the changes in fashion but also the tremendous shifts that took place during several epochs in the spiritual realm, the changes in ideas, tastes, moral and aesthetic guidelines. 

150 years of Russian fashion turn into 150 years of Russian life. That is why Alexander Vasiliev's book will be interesting not only for professionals: historians of fashion, costume designers, photographers, directors, actors, journalists but also for everyone, who needs and is important to have that wonderful feeling of complicity with the general past, which is called "the connection of times".

In 2005, the book won the Grand Prix "Silver Liter", ASKI Diploma and Diploma of the contest "The Art of the Book. Tradition and Search", 2005.
