Born in Huntsville and in spite of a degree in math and physics, David Adickes pursued art by studying at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Atelier Fernand Leger in Paris. He returned to Texas and found success with his first solo show at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in December 1951. Adickes spent most of his professional life teaching, painting, and creating small bronzes. Adickes has a distinctive and vibrant style featuring bold color and texture blended with a serene tone.
