Pierre Soulages is a French artist whose thick black brushstrokes, labeled outre noir (beyond black), against lighter backgrounds have characterized his painting and printmaking practice since the late 1940s.

Condition: Great condition; paint loss around the edges of the canvas; two one inch cracks in paint at the top edge , and one smaller on the upper left edge.
