Voyage par l'Italie, en Egypte au Mont-Liban et en Palestine ou Terre Sainte - Journey through Italy, to Egypt, to Mount Lebanon and to Palestine, by Marie Dominique de Binos, published by Briand et Letellier, Paris, [1798/1799 (title: "An VII")]. French. Two volumes.


The important work of Marie Dominique de Binos (1730-1803) in which he summarizes his journey to the Middle East. de Binos set out on a journey from France in 1776, through Italy he continued to Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon. In 1779 he returned to France via Cyprus. The book is accompanied by 12 engraving plates showing the inhabitants of the various areas he visited and their traditional costumes. One of the engravings of a woman in traditional dress from Jerusalem.


Volume I: [2] leaves, 301, [3] pp + [6] plates (bluish paper). Volume II: [2] leaves, 367, [1] pp + [6] plates (bluish paper). 17 cm. Gilt edges. Stains. Slight defects. Leather-covered covers, with gilt frame. Good condition.
