Robinson, (1794–1863) American biblical scholar. One of the most important scholars of the Land of Israel in the 19th century, he summarized his journey to the Land of Israel in 1838 in the three volumes before us. After his second journey, he published a second extended edition in 1856. Among other, he visited Jerusalem and his descriptions shed light on the Jewish community in Jerusalem at that time. Robinson revealed the mysteries of the ancient transport female in the City of David, get ahead of Charles Warren. In 1838 he discovered the Robinson Arch, named after him. On his first journey, on a tour of the Negev in 1838, he discovered the archaeological importance of Be'er Avraham in Be'er Sheva. He continued south and reached the ruins of Nitzana, which he mistakenly identified as the ancient Ovdat. Although erroneously identified, Robinson left a detailed and preliminary description of Nitzana antiquities in all its parts, including the Acropolis with a citadel and two ancient churches on it. Robinson identified many places in the Land of Israel, mentioned in the Bible and the New Testament, including Arab villages built on the ruins of ancient Israeli settlements. In his writings, Robinson described not only the archeological parts of Eretz Israel in the 19th century, But also the human stratum and cultural richness of the Land of Israel. In 1838 and 1852 he embarked on two long research expeditions in the Land of Israel, in an attempt to locate and identify biblical sites.
