French edition of this important travel work. Johann George Adam Forster was a German naturalist and traveller, having accompanied his father, Reinhold Forster on several scientific expeditions, including Cook's second voyage to the Pacific. At the end of 1790, Forster and the young Alexander von Humboldt began a journey through the south of Holland, United Provinces, England and ending in Paris, a journey he describes in this work of his, first published between 1791 and 1794 in three volumes. Despite the interest that the work represents for the history of art, the main interest was in the social behavior of the people he encountered. Rare and important work.
