KIA ARMY SOLDIER GROUPING (47)
Lot of 47 items about Sgt. Charles S. Knight, army soldier killed in battle. Knight was part of the 3rd Army 167th Engr. Combat Battalion and was KIA on March 17, 1945, likely in the Netherlands. He was buried in an American WWII soldier cemetery in Holland. Lot includes three V-Mails, 20 letters to and from Knight, 23 photos of Knight, and one certificate for a Purple Heart issued to Knight posthumously. The photos show Knight and other soldiers on the battlefield, in barracks, photos of his grave, and personal photos. In one V-Mail he writes, ‘Well Dad things are looking better but there is plenty of tough fighting to be done. These ferries [sic] are stubborn but not half as bad as they think they are. I know that to be a fact. There [sic] fooling with the wrong men now. Wish you could have seen what I have. You would have seen one of the greatest political machines in the world. Being torn down. Piece by piece.’
