Large illustrated Receipt - The Jewish People's Relief of America - Jewish War Sufferers. USA c.1915
A large receipt that looks like a stock certificate, and indicates a contribution to the Maintenance Board for the Jewish War Sufferers in Europe. The foundation was established by The Jewish People's Relief of America, an organization that belonged to the Jewish socialist movement in the United States.
The certificate includes an illustration based on the painting "The Exiled" by Samuel Hirszenberg, but the Jews depicted in it walk towards the United States. Surrounded by a red illustrated frame with the organization name in Yiddish.
The certificate is signed by Alexander Kahn, who later became one of the founders of the Joint, and the chief executive of the Jewish Daily Forward.
Very good/Excellent condition, folding marks, light wear, 25x35 cm.
