A Timurid Tinned Copper Kashkul Beggar's Bowl, 16th Century.
A Timurid-era copper kashkul (beggar’s bowl), featuring an elongated boat-like form with elegantly curved dragon-head handles at either end. The exterior is richly decorated with bands of intricate arabesque motifs and interlacing floral cartouches, while the central frieze displays a beautifully executed thuluth inscription. Of particular note, the Arabic script encircling the bowl includes a verse from the Qur’an — Surah Al-A'raf (7:43) — which reads:
“Praise be to God, who has guided us to this; we would not have been guided had God not guided us.” The underside is equally adorned with engraved motifs and a central eye-shaped medallion, further emphasizing the spiritual and ornamental significance of the vessel.
H: Approximately 16.5cm
L: Approximately 33.5cm
Provenance: Private collection from a distinguished W London collector.
