A FINE 19TH C. RUSSIAN TROIKA BRONZE GROUPING BY VASILY GRACHEV

Vasily Yakovlevich Grachev (Russian, 1831-1905), bronze figural group depicting figures in sleigh with three horses, signed in Cyrillic. Cast by Woerffel, St Petersburg, after the model by Vasily Grachev. Original casting, circa 1877. Raised on a marble plinth with a name plate inscribed: 'Troika Sleigh Scene.'

Footnote: Vasily Yakovlevich Grachev was a Russian sculptor, the main competitor to Eugene Lanceray. He stopped modeling after Lancerays death in 1886. Both of them together made a great input to Russian sculptural art by competing and inspiring each other. Grachev used to cast all his works at Woerffel foundry, St. Petersburg.

L: 17 1/2 in., (44.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good with a nice bronze patina, no visible damage or restoration.
