AN IMPERIAL RUSSIAN GOLD BROOCH SET WITH DIAMONDS, 19TH CEN.
A Russian gold brooch in the shape of a wreath containing six diamonds around a large central stone. The wreath is surmounted by a silver ribbon encrusted with many diamonds and is backed by a pin that is stamped with multiple hallmarks, including the Imperial Russia '56' gold hallmark, kokoshnik mark and the initials of the jeweler, "H.W.".
Henrik Wigstrom (1862-1923) was a Finnish master goldsmith and workmaster for the House of Faberge who used the hallmarks "H.W.". He became the head workmaster after the death of Michael Perchin in 1903 and was responsible for the imperial Easter eggs. Wigström's style was influenced by the Louis XVI and Empire periods, and he was also known for designing cigarette cases, frames, and figurines.
Imperial Russia, 19th century.
