Willi Baumeister
1889 Stuttgart - 1955 Stuttgart - "Formlinge III, Horizontal-Abstrakt" - (1937) Offset lithograph/paper. 36 x 27.5 cm, 47 x 36 cm (mat cut-out). 80 x 69 cm (overall size). Signed and dated r. u.: Baumeister 1937. passepartout. Framed under glass. Browned. Sporadically slightly stained. - Ref.: Spielmann-Baumeister 52. Baumeister studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy from 1908-1910 and took part in the first German autumn salon at the Berlin gallery "Der Sturm" in 1913. In 1928 he was appointed to the Städelsche Kunstschule in Frankfurt/Main, but was dismissed in 1933. Baumeister published his views on art in 1947 in the book "Das Unbekannte in der Kunst" (The Unknown in Art). In 1954, his work was honored with the Klimt Award of the Vienna Secession.
