Two Pieces of Jewelry – Yemen, Early 20th Century
Two pieces of jewelry. Yemen, early 20th century.
Silver, corals, filigree and granulation on fabric.
Two pieces of jewelry which were, apparently, ornaments for a Yemenite Gargush headdress.
1. Semi-circle shaped ornament for a Gargush headdress made of meticulous filigree craftsmanship. The ornament is made of pendants sewn to fabric, coral stones and bells attached to each pendant. Length: 29 cm, height: 8 cm. Good condition.
2. Filigree belt on fabric, which was most probably worn on the forehead and attached to the Gargush headdress. The belt is made of three filigree bands with floral rings and pomegranate shaped pendants. Length: 36 cm. Good condition.
