Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, bust of Rembrandt
2nd half of the 19th century, signed "A. Carrier", bronze dark green patinated, bust of the leading Dutch painter, draughtsman and etcher of the Baroque period, on pedestal plinth, patina gone over, h total 49 cm. Artist's info: French sculptor and draughtsman (1824 Anizy-le-Château/Département Aisne to 1887 Sèvres), studied from 1840 with Pierre Jean David d'Angers at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, which he attended for only a short time as he first wanted to become a chaser, from the 1850s he executed marble works, bronze sculptures and terracotta busts, known for naturalistic works, friend of Auguste Rodin, received the Medal of Honour of the Salon de Paris 1867.
