Emmanuel Hannaux, Bust of a Warrior
circa 1920, signed E. Hannaux on the chest, stamped F. Goldscheider Sculpture no. 31 HL on the verso, further markings, bronze nuanced brown patinated, chest depiction of a warrior with richly decorated antiqued pomp helmet, on a high, stepped and fluted pedestal base, this bumped, stronger signs of age, h bronze 30 cm, overall c. 42 cm. Source: Bryan Catley, Art Deco and other Figures, Antique Collectors Club, Woodbridge 2003, p. 186, there titled "Roman Warrior". Artist info: French sculptor and medallist (1855 Metz to 1934 Paris), trained at the Industrial School in Strasbourg, then in Nancy at the École de Modelage et de Sculpture, from 1876 resident in Paris and studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris under A. Dumont, Thomas and Bonnassieux, was represented at numerous exhibitions, including the Paris Salon, and received prizes for them, his works can be found in museums worldwide.
