Emmanuel Villanis, bust "Chatelaine"
c. 1900, verso signed on the shoulder "E. Villanis", recto titled "Chatelaine", metal casting polychrome painted in cold colours, Art Nouveau beauty with multi-rowed choker, on high architectural plinth with scaled surface and flared foot, mounted on light onyx base, patina with heat damage, base backside bumped, h bust ca. 30 cm, h total ca. 33 cm. Artist's note: French sculptor (1858 Lille to 1914 Paris), trained at the Academia Albertina di Belle Arti Turin, worked mainly in Paris, preferred busts of young women. Source: Cf.
