Carl Reschke, stoneware sculpture "Don Quixote"
dated 1912, signed "Carl Reschke", light grey body with gradient brown glaze, with inscription "The noble and brave knight Don Quixote and his faithful squire Sancho Panza on the wooden spigot", humorous, stylised depiction of the knight together with his squire, both blindfolded on the bucking horse "Holzzapf", at the so-called distinguished "aviation", minimal, hardly visible craquelure, on the verso a chip at the stand, a probably production-related chip under the glaze, h approx. 45 cm. Artist's info: East Prussian sculptor and designer (1872 Niederzehren today Czarne Dolne/Poland to 1961 Solingen), studied at the academy of Berlin, professorship at the technical school of Solingen, resident in Solingen, came via Erwin Bowien to the salon of the Black House, worked for the Berlin porcelain manufactory, created hundreds of grave designs, was brought together with the style of Schadow and Hildebrand by Erwin Bowien in his autobiography.
