2 W.H.GOSS English porcelain jugs replicas of ancient Greek and Roman jugs that are displayed in museums around the world
High-quality porcelain includes an origin stamp at the bottom. Average height 4-7 cm.
"William Henry Goss (1833–1906). William was a student at the Somerset House School of Design in London. In 1857 he was employed as chief artist of the Stoke-on-Trent firm William Taylor Copeland." W. T. Copeland
Many people are familiar with the white glazed porcelain keepsakes, usually in classic shapes of Roman and Greek antiquity. They also created miniature replicas of visitor attractions such as a statue of Captain Cook with the name and emblem of Captain Whitby's hometown. Small statues of famous people such as Queen Victoria or George V were also created. Goss cottages are among the most collectible.
By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Goss china was very popular, and it is said that at least 90% of homes had at least one piece of Goss crested China. The First World War caused a decline and in 1929 the Goss family sold their factory which continued to produce souvenir vessels until the end of the 1930s.
