Условно хорошее состояние. Обложка потерта, есть мелкие загрязнения. Карандашная помета на нижнем листе обложки. Трещина в блоке. Ржавые скобы. Бумага немного покороблена. Владельческая подпись чернилами на свободном листе форзаца. Помета чернилами на странице 25. Страницы 55-58 частично отходят от блока. Надрыв в тексте на страницах 71-74. Уголки страниц помяты сильно. Встречаются загрязнения на страницах.
Подписана к печати 17.III. 1944. В книге собраны очерки, написанные на Сталинградском фронте. В них рассказано о самых тяжелых днях, пережитых в сентябре-ноябре 1942 года. Иллюстрировал книгу известный художник Адриан Михайлович Ермолаев (1900-1977), который более 40 лет создавал рисунки для книг А. Гайдара, Л. Кассиля, С. Маршака, А. Барто и многих других.
