Maseches Prohibition and other parodies by New York 1909-1929
Lot of parodies authored by Gershon Kish.
Lot includes Maseches Prohibition, Hedyaytos, Chanukah, Nechasim, Masveh, K’zavim, America, Midrash Esther and Haggadah L’Sofrim.
Although the sale of sacramental wine was permitted during Prohibition, only four rabbinical authorities were authorized. This led to competition, since the supervision of sacramental licenses could be used to secure donations to support a religious institution. There were known abuses in this system, with imposters or unauthorized agents using loopholes to manufacture and purchase wine.
Over hundreds of years, persecution and difficult living conditions, coupled with Talmudic minds often cultivated a wry sense of humor manifested in satirical publications. These publications reflect the times in which they were written, with cryptic references to current events.

2 volumes.
Condition: Fine condition, unbound.
