Raymer Society will be auctioning art from the estate of Hal Wright of McPherson, KS. Over 250 lots will be on live and silent auction. 


The artworks may be previewed at the Red Barn Studio Museum 212 S. Main St. Lindsborg, KS from January 23th- 25th. Artworks will also be on display day of the auction on January 27th, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 224 S. Main St. Lindsborg, KS. Doors open at 9:00 AM, Auction begins at 10:00 AM.

Oakes, Marcella (1921-2007) "Near Lindsborg Mill" watercolor signed lower right, good condition, image size: 7 x 5 inches. Marcella Oakes was born and raised in Salina, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1939 before moving to Chicago in 1942 to study at the Art Institute of Chicago. While in school she corresponded overseas with a young military man from Chicago serving in World War II named William Robert Oakes. When the war was over, the two hit it off in person and were married for 30 years. Marcella Dowling Oakes loved to paint, especially Kansas landscapes. A talented watercolor artist, she valued realism and drawing skills. Her son Dennis Oakes said she was very opinionated about this and had a disdain for abstract art, or as she would say “paint thrown from a bucket.” During her lifetime she sold over 900 painting.
