Letter of Recommendation for the Famous Kovno Kollel, handwritten by the 'Dvar Avraham'. Kovno 5698 [1938]

Letter of recommendation written and signed by Rav Avraham Dov Ber Kahana Shapira, AB"D of Kovno and author of sefer 'Dvar Avraham'.

In his letter, he refutes the accusation of those who spoke against the kollel and writes 'just the opposite- if there are those who speak against the kollel, this is a sign of its greatness and high quality.'

Rav Avraham Dov Ber Kahana Shapira (5631-5703). The leader and captain of Lithuanian Jewry, son of Rav Zalman Sender Kahana Shapira and son-in-law of 'the gadol of Minsk'. At the early age of 35 he printed the first volume of his sefer 'Dvar Avraham'- this sefer caused a storm in the Torah world and placed its young author among the Gaonim of the generation, as one who has paved a new pathway in the great ocean of the Talmud. Seven years later at the age of 42 he was appointed Rav of Kovno, where he served until he passed away in the Kovno ghetto, from his great pain over the suffering of his fellow Jews.
