Letter from Rav Aharon Kotler. Kletsk 5696 [1936]
Letter regarding his state of health and activities of support among United States Jewry on behalf of the Yeshiva.
The letter was sent from Kletsk in 5696- due to being chased after by the communist government, the Yeshiva transferred from Slutsk to Kletsk, Poland (on the border of Russia) in 5681 and the yeshiva's leadership transferred from Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer to Rav Aharon Kotler. At the beginning of 5700, the yeshiva students escaped from Poland to Lithuania. This official stationery is from the time that the Yeshiva was in Kletsk, and on it is written: 'Yeshivas Etz Chaim of Slutsk which has been transferred to Kletsk.'
Rav Aharon Kotler (5652-5723) author of 'Mishnas Rebbi Aharon' was one of the greatest Roshei Yeshiva of Lithuania in the generation of the holocaust, and one of the founders of Torah-true Jewry in America after the holocaust. He worked tirelessly to rebuild the Yeshiva world after the war. One of the great Torah leaders and the president of 'Mo'etzes Gedoley HaTorah' in the United States. Handwriting of the Yeshiva's secretary with Rav Aharon's signature and stamp. Personal stationery. Kletsk 5696 [1936]. Size: 22x28 cm.
