Hitler Signed & Owned Copy of Schopenhauer + Provenance
********Truly an item that belongs in a museum and comes with rock solid provenance (item will come with a copy of the signed letter from August Kubizek, Hitler's childhood friend which is where this item was originally acquired).********This is Adolf Hitler's personal copy of Schopenhauer, Die Welt Als Wille und Vorstellung, which he owned as a teenager while living in Vienna and pursuing acceptance into the art school. In his late teens, Hitler was a nobody who was struggling to survive as an artist. He lived together with his friend August Kubizek in Stumpergasse 29 in Vienna. When Hitler joined the German military to fight in World War One, he left his few possessions, including a handful of his books. In all of these books he wrote his name which must have been of great value to him back then. This book being offered is especially interesting as Schopenhauer is said to have been Hitler's inspiration for his "master race" ideas.About the book: Leather soft covers. 6 5/8" x 4" 1464 pp. With Hitler's usual ownership signature from around 1905 to 1908. What most Hitlerian scholars believe, this book was the origin of Hitler's concept of the Master Race. Certainly the strongest philosophical influence in Hitler's life, Hans Frank (Hitler's lawyer and governor of the General Government (conquered Poland)) said that Hitler always carried a copy of Schopenhauer with him--doubtful but certainly bears some semblance of truth amid the hyperbole. Good condition. A luxurious copy at some point in its tumultuous history, but now well-worn.To read more about August Kubizek, visit his Wikipedia page. Included on the page is a small mention of the items he kept from his friendship with Hitler, including;"In December 1945, Kubizek gathered the collection of keepsakes given to him by Hitler during their youth and concealed them carefully in the basement of his house in Eferding. He was arrested by American forces shortly afterwards and held at Glasenbach, where he was imprisoned and interrogated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. His home was searched, but the Hitler correspondence and drawings were not found. He was released on 8 April 1947."
