GERMAN WW2 AIR GUNNER OPERATOR BADGE + ETUI
GERMAN WW2 AIR GUNNER OPERATOR BADGE + ETUI
Early Production Air Gunner/Wireless Operator Badge - Fliegerschíutzenabzeichen fíur Bordfunker by BPNL. This is early version of this badge.
It was intended to be awarded to Air Gunners, Radio Operators and Mechanics who successfully completed two months of training in one of the positions, in a minimum of five operational flights.
The badge could have been awarded should the recipient be wounded on an operational flight. It depicts a Luftwaffe eagle in flight, clutching in its claws a pair of arrow headed lightning bolts, surrounded by a wreath of half laurel leaves and half oak leaves.
It is produced in tombak, and has crisp details with little to no wear. The nickel silver finish has toned ever so slightly, giving this a truly handsome look. Selling on consignment. Authentication is unknown. Please note: last image is for sample only.

WIKIPEDIA: The Air Gunner's and Flight Engineer's badge (German: Fliegerschutzenabzeichen fur Bordschutzen und Bordmechaniker) was a German military decoration awarded to air gunners, mechanics (flight engineers) or aircrew meteorologists who were members of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) after they completed two months training or had taken part in at least five operational flights. If one was wounded during an operational flight, the badge could be awarded earlier. For Luftwaffe members who were air gunners and mechanics (flight engineers) this badge replaced an earlier separate badge which had been introduced back in 1935. The qualifications for the two badges were the same for recipients.
