Rare and Important Early 16 Century South German (N rnberg) Brass Bowl
From the inscription, it appears to celebrate the conversion to Protestantism from Catholicism by the Landgrave of Hesse, Philip I (1504-1567). In 1529, Philip established the University of Marburg as a school for Protestant theologians.

The engraved image on the bowl of Philip (called the Magnanimous), is copied from a woodcut by Hans Brosamer.
