Thaddeus Venediktovich Bulgarin (born Jan Tadeusz Krzysztof Bulgarin, Polish. Jan Tadeusz Krzysztof Bułharyn; June 24 [July 5] 1789, Peryshevo estate, Minsk Voivodeship, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, now-uzdensky district of Minsk region — September 1 [13] 1859, Karlov estate, Dorpat County, Livonia province) — Russian writer of Polish origin, journalist, critic and publisher. Captain of the Napoleonic army, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor of France, full state councillor; "hero" of numerous epigrams by Pushkin, Vyazemsky, Baratynsky, Lermontov, Nekrasov and many others.

The founder of the genres of adventurous picaresque novel, fantasy novel in Russian literature, the author of feuilletons and moral essays, the publisher of the first theatrical almanac in Russia. His novels, in which he acted as an ideologue of the Russian bourgeoisie, were translated into French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, and Czech during his lifetime.
