ERONE di Alessandria (I secolo d.C.) - Gli artificiosi e curiosi moti spiritali di Herone. Bologna: Zenero, 1647. Second Italian edition of the "pneumatica" by Heron, translated by Giovanni Battista Aleotti (1546-1636). The work, divided into "theoremi" is illustrated by numerous woodcuts and describes how to fabricate robots, water games and hydraulic machines including the famous "Eolipila" forerunner of the steam engine. 4to (193 x 153mm). Woodcut vignette on title, numerous illustrations (marginal stain to title, some spotting to first leaves). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine, speckled edges (some staining).
