Letter of recommendation issued by Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, Mir Rosh Yeshiva, to his student, Rabbi Eliyahu Baruch Shulman, before his departure for Eretz Yisrael in 1930.
‘He has decided to travel to our Holy Land, and to study there at one of the holy Yeshivos, I therefore wish to introduce him and to request our teachers and masters, the Geonim and directors [of the Yeshivos] wherever he comes, to receive him well and to give him the honour he deserves’.
Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel (1877-1965), son of Rabbi Nassan Tzvi – the Alter of Slabodka. Studied under Rabbi Eliezer Gordon of Telz, Rabbi Shimon Shkopf, Rabbi Chaim Soloweitchik of Brisk, at the Kollel Kodoshim in Radin and the Mir Yeshiva. He was a son-in-law of Rabbi Eliyahu Baruch Kamai of Mir, and succeeded him as Rosh Yeshiva, re-establishing the Yeshiva in Yerushalayim after his escape from Europe in 1941. Author of Divrei Eliezer.
