Printed label on reverse of title page, ‘Mazkeres Ahavas Dodim’ with handwritten inscription and signature of the author to ‘my friend the famous and praised rabbi and gaon, the glory of the generation, crown of Israel, Rabbi Yehuda Lubetzki’.
Rabbi Chaim Chezkiyahu Medini (d. 1905), studied in his youth under the great Sefardi rabbis of Yerushalayim, Rabbi Yitzchak Kobo and Rabbi Yosef Nissim Burla. Served for some years as Torah teacher and Dayan in Karasubazar, before returning to Eretz Yisrael and becoming Chief Rabbi of Chevron. Renowned as outstanding Torah scholar and saint and author of the famous multi-volume Sedei Chemed Torah encyclopedia.
