A postcard bearing a rare original photograph from the youth of the Admor Rabbi Yitzhak Menachem Mendel of Alexander, He is sitting wearing his overgarments, a large kippah, looking at the camera. Size: 8.5x13.5cm. Tear in the negative width-wise. Marking in pen. Overall good condition.

Inscription on the front: “Alexander Rabbi Shlita”, and an identical inscription on the back. There is also a stamp in Polish(?) and an inscription bearing the name of Rabbi David Bernhoer of Otovsk (who was active in Poalei Agudat Yisrael in Poland).

The Admor Rabbi Yitzhak Menachem Mendel of Alexander (1880-1942 or 1943) was the son of Rabbi Shmuel Zvi, a student of Rabbi Yehiel of Alexander, and uncle of Admor the Yismach Yisrael of Alexander. He was son-in-law of Rabbi Michael Auerbach of Lodz. He served as Admor of Alexander in 1924, and set up a network of “Beit Yisrael” yeshivot across Poland, as well as Yismach Yisrael in Israel. He perished in the Shoah. His biography is given in “Ro’eh Ne’eman.” His sons are Rabbi Yerachmiel Yisrael Yosef and Rabbi Yaakov Pinchas Shraga.
