BRUNO LOERZER
(1891-1960) German air force officer during both World War I and World War II, named Inspector of Fighters with rank of major general in 1938. His close friendship with Hermann Goering, who flew with Loertzer in the First World War, led to Loerzer's promotion to Generaloberst by the war's end. Goering described Loerzer as 'his laziest general, ' but noted: 'I need someone I can drink a bottle of red wine with in the evening.' Rare partly-printed D.S. as General of the II. Fliegerkorps, 1p. 8vo., 'Gefechtstand' ('Combat Headquarters'), Nov. 14, 1939, awarding the Iron Cross, Second Class to one Oberfeldwebel Wilhelm Moller. Loerzer signs at bottom in blue ink. Fine condition. Sold with three other items belonging to Moller, including his 'Flugbuch' ('flight book') which contains eight pages of entries of then-Unteroffizier Moller's flights between the German cities of Wunstorf, Munster, Leipzig, and Celle, beginning with a flight at May 6, 1936, and ending with a flight from July 9, 1936; his completed application for the German Sports Badge in Bronze, 15pp. 8vo., awarded in 1931; and his report card from Army technical school, 1p. 4to., dated 1933/34.
