(1920 - 2007) U.S. Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the battle of Iwo Jima. Great S.P., 8 x 10 in. b/w, a reprinted photograph of Lindberg looking for entrances along the crater's rim after the first flag was raised at Mount Suribachi. He signs at the top-left, adding '1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima Feb. 23, 1945 10:30 A.M.' Fine.
