ENOLA GAY CREWMEMBERS
Excellent limited-edition signed print: 'Atomic Warfare is Born' by HARLEY COPIC, no. 580/2000, 23.75 x 18 in., showing the Enola Gay flying immediately after dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, showing an intense cloud of smoke in the background, clearly the remnants of the intense explosion. The print is signed in pencil by four crewmembers of the Enola Gay, including: pilot PAUL TIBBETS; assistant weaponeer MORRIS JEPPSON; radar countermeasures JACOB BESER (also the only man to fly on both of the nuclear bombing aircraft); and navigator DUTCH VAN KIRK (adding 'Navigator'). The artist also signs at bottom-right. Very tiny spots of foxing, appreciable folds to the top-left corner, else very good. Sold with a 'Daily Mirror' newspaper, issued August 9, 1945, headlined: '2D ATOMIC BOMB HITS NAGASAKI'.
