ERICH LUDENDORFF
(1865 - 1937) German general and politician, with Hindenburg in World War I, he was responsible for the defeat of Russia, and later nearly crushed the Allies on the Western Front. Later, he joined forces with Hitler in the Beer Hall Putsch and became a member of the Reichstag. T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Munich, Oct. 23, 1928, to George Sylvester Viereck, German-American poet, writer, and pro-Nazi propagandist. In full: 'Enclosed I'm sending the essay per the telegram from Western Union. Please confirm the essay after receipt. As soon as the essay is published in the local press, I presuppose that it can be published here. I assume it is obvious, that my article will be faithfully translated, despite that some concepts may not be familiar to the American public. I'm only writing to make other people understand the real circumstances in Germany for the benefit of the German people and other nations. If not all nations will understand, a catastrophe is to be feared for them.' He signs at the conclusion in pencil. Shows mailing folds, else very good. Viereck would be imprisoned in the U.S. from 1942 to 1947 for his Nazi affiliations.
