FRANZ HALDER
(1884 -1972) One-time German chief of staff until transferred to the reserves by Hitler due to policy disputes. Suspected of plotting against Hitler's life in 1944, he was interned at Flossenburg until his rescue by the Allies. Lot of two signed items, includes: T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Aschau, Nov. 15, 1963, to Dr. Charles B. Burdick. Halder apologizes for his delayed response, and shares his regrets that he has only limited knowledge regarding Burdick's inquiries into a potential German invasion of Gibraltar. Halder goes on to recommend that Burdick contact two other former generals, Hubert Lanz and Erich Schneider, as they may have more useful information for him. Signed at the conclusion in blue ink. Folds, else very good. WITH: T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Aschau, Jan. 7, 1941, also to Burdick, sending along a few words of praise for Burdick to include in a tribute he is writing for General Hubert Lanz. Signed at the conclusion in violet ink. Bears some ink erosion and folds, else very good.
