LEONARDO CONTI
(1900 - 1945) Chief Physician of the Third Reich, he instituted state-sponsored euthanasia programs which resulted in the deaths of thousands of Germans. Held after the war for crimes against humanity, he hanged himself in his cell at Nuremburg. His blue-ink signature 'L. Conti' within his library copy of Wilhelm Krauel's 'Das Lebendige Recht' ('The Living Right'), 239pp. 8vo., bound in orange boards. Lacks publication page. The front pastedown bears Conti's affixed 'ex libris' bookplate, showing an eerie skeleton next to the bed of an ill German woman. Some initial pages absent, with first page slightly broken at the gutter, else very good.
