MATTHEW B. RIDGWAY
(1895 - 1994) American Army general who led airborne assaults on Sicily and commanded U.N. forces in the Korean War. Good content T.L.S. on the verso of a postcard, Pittsburgh, Dec. 24, 1979, in part: '...I was strongly opposed to the volunteer military establishment when it was proposed...Every young man and young woman should be happy and proud to serve this wonderful Country of ours, and there is [no] reason whatever why Selective Service could not and should not be promptly reactivated and on an equitable basis...' Slight show through of postal cancel, else fine.
