RUDOLF VON SCHMETTOW
(1891 - 1970) German general, commanded Infantry Regiment 164 and 319th Infantry Division and served as administer of the occupied Channel Islands for almost the entirety of the war. A.L.S., 4pp. 4to., Bad Wildungen on November 8, 1961, it reads, in part: 'Enclosed is a picture of my father and on eof myself...my father was well known in the old army... before WWI 14-18 he was commander of the Leib-Husaren Brigade (Hussars Brigade) at Danzig...I have letters of personalities such as his majesty, the emperor, the empress, Hindenburg, Mackensen...there are not many and personal...you will understand that I keep those memories for the family...since you are interested in the historical development of Germany may I suggest our family history...it was just published, it is not available in Germany...I could send you one copy...it begins at the end of the 15th century...all over Europe were members of the family who were Generals of Diplomats...Shall I send you the family chronic it is 30DM for family members...my father was in the USA in 1903/1904 when he delivered the statue of Frederic the Great as a gift to America in the name of the Kaiser...'.
