(1900 - 1982) Russian general who was an essential planner and director of the battle of Stalingrad, his forces headed the spearhead to Berlin, where he had the honor of receiving the surrender of the city from General Krebs. Partly-printed D.S. in Cyrillic as Commander of the Kiev Military District, Marshall of the USSR, 1p. legal folio, [n.p., n.d., certainly 1953 to 1960], the second page of an appointment document, requesting that Lieutenant-Colonol Peter Shurlakov be placed in the position of Deputy Editor of 'Lenin's Banner', the regional newspaper of the Kiev district. Chuikov signs at the left of the page in blue ink. Small hole at top-left corner, tiny holes at left edge where previously disbound, else very good.
