BERLIN EMBASSY ANALYSIS ON 'STRENGTH THROUGH JOY' PROGRAM
Original period copy of a very detailed analysis of the 'Kraft durch Freude' ('Strength through Joy') program, a state-operated leisure organization in Nazi Germany, a part of the German Labor Front part of the DAF. Set up as a tool to promote the advantages of National Socialism to the people, it had become the world's largest tourism operator by the 1930s. This 116pp. legal folio carbo copy is from the files of JOHN G. ERHARDT, former Consul in Hamburg and at the time American Consul in London under Ambassador Joseph Kennedy, Sr. The report is addressed by Ambassador Hugh R. Wilson, who admired Hitler's administration of Germany, to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This is an exhaustive report prepared by an embassy staffer, and it includes detailed information on the DAF, 'Strength through Joy' organization, administration, finances, programs, the Volkswagen, views of employers and workers, and much more. Cover letters are stamped and initialed as true copies of the embassy original letters. Very good.
