GEN. ALEXANDER PATCH COMMENDS THE SEVENTH ARMY
ALEXANDER PATCH (1889 - 1945) American Army general who also commanded Marines in the invasion of Guadalcanal to relieve the 1st Marine Div., headed the invasion landings in southern France and link-up with Patton's Third Army. Died of pneumonia. Good content typed 'commendation', 1p. 4to., 'Headquarters Seventh Army', Apr. 1, 1945, in which Patch lauds the successes of his Seventh Army. In small part: '...the Seventh Army...launched an attack on the 15th of March. That attack was a complete success. Seventh Army troops on the east bank of the Rhine...For years the Germans have trumpeted to the world of the impregnability of their vaunted Siegfried Line...their words meant nothing to the Seventh Army...The losses which the enemy suffered from your operations were staggering...The last great barrier to entering Germany has been crossed...'; Very good.
