GERMAN-AMERICAN BUND CELEBRATES HITLER'S BIRTHDAY
Broadside printed in German, 8 x 1.5 in., issued by the 'Friends of New Germany' (later, the German-American Bund). The broadside bears a large color NSDAP flag on a swastika-topped flagstaff promoting 'Adolf Hitler's Birthday Party' to be held at the Yorkville Casino in upper Manhattan, April 22, 1934. Commercial supporters are listed, with the bottom of the handbill urging: 'Read our fighting newspaper!' Fine. Seven were injured when incensed Jews and American Legionnaires rushed the stage and were met by armed members of the Bund. Hitler had assumed dictatorial powers in Germany a year earlier.
